Canna Cubes Take the Guesswork Out of Microdosing with Cannabis
We’ve talked about microdosing before – it’s one of many ways that you can choose to benefit from cannabis. For those who aren’t looking for the high associated with cannabis but still want all the benefits it can provide, microdosing is the perfect solution. For some conditions, like many anxiety disorders, smaller and more regular doses of THC are better as larger doses may induce paranoia and anxiety.
“Most people don’t know about microdosing,” says Michelle Ross, founder of IMPACT network, a nonprofit organization that uses empirical medical research to find new cannabis-related treatments for patients. “They just blast their system with cannabis or high amounts of THC, and that is not always the best approach for whatever condition they have.”
Some studies, including one published in the Journal of Pain, which was conducted on a small group of cancer patients who were no longer benefitting from traditional painkillers. During the study these patients were given a compound with THC and CBD – one group was given low doses, one group a moderate dose, and another group was given a high dose. Surprisingly, the study found that those who were given the low dose experienced the most noticeably reduced pain.
When it comes to microdosing with cannabis it can be hard to know exactly where to start – but before you can decide a baseline for how much cannabis to consume daily, you will need access your current tolerance.
For those who normally consume more cannabis but are looking to cut back and improve their chances of benefitting from the herb it is recommended that you take at least a two-day tolerance break before you begin microdosing. For those who are new to cannabis, you can start out right away – but likely with a smaller dose.
Generally, starting off at 5 milligrams or less is optimal for microdosing if you’re an occasional consumer already – but for those who are new to cannabis even this may be too much. Those who are new to cannabis consumption and are looking to use the microdosing technique doses as small as 2.5 milligrams can be enough to obtain the desired effect.
“Microdosing is something that is very personal,” says Ross. “There is no magic bullet for all patients; it is different for each one. So keep experimenting until you find the dose that works for you.”
