How Long Should Your Weed High Last?
There are a lot of questions that are commonly asked by first time cannabis consumers – and even those who are just curious about the plant. A relatively common one is “how long should your weed high last?” The truth is, this is a hard question to answer as there are many different things to consider when you want to know how long you’re going to feel stoned.
How Did You Consume Your Cannabis?
The first and most important thing to consider is how you consumed your cannabis. Did you smoke ground flower out of a pipe or joint? Or did hit wax out of a dab rig or vape pen? Perhaps you ate an edible and now you’re worried you’ll feel too high forever. How long your buzz is going to last will largely be based off this information.
Smoking generally produces a buzz that is nearly instant and can last fifteen minutes to upwards of a few hours. Smoking or vaping wax is more potent, pure THC and produces an intense near immediate buzz that lasts 45-minutes to few hours on average. On the other hand, edibles can take 45-minutes to an hour to kick in – but intensify as your body digests the THC and can last four to six hours on average (when dosed properly).
How Much Did You Ingest?
Another important thing to consider is how much you smoked, vaped, or ate in that sitting. Again, this will factor heavily into how long your buzz should last you. If you smoked or vaped too much chances are, you’ll feel the effects for a couple hours, with a heavier comedown than usual. However, with edibles, if you’ve ingested too much (ex. A 100 milligram edible is way too much for one person!) you can feel an intensely uncomfortable high for far past the six-hour average.

Were You Hydrated and Full Beforehand?
Something else that can affect the length of your buzz is how hydrated and fed you were beforehand. If you hadn’t eaten or taken a sip of water in hours already then chances are, you’re going to feel the effects more intensely until you satisfy that need. Since cotton-mouth is one of the most notable side effects of cannabis – along with the munchies – it is important to keep hydrated and try to make sure you’ve eaten recently before smoking, vaping or eating an edible.
